MARTINEZ, Calif. - A Northern California man convicted of killing his pregnant girlfriend in 1999 has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison.

The Contra Costa Times says Raymond Wong tearfully proclaimed his innocence at his sentencing hearing Friday. But the judge said the evidence of his guilt was overwhelming.

Prosecutors say Wong was living in Pinole with 21-year-old Alice Sin and their infant son when she disappeared. Sin had told friends she was pregnant.

Her mutilated body was found two months later in the Nevada desert.

Authorities say Wong conspired with another girlfriend to kill Sin.

In the 15-year gap between the killing and the trial, Wong served prison time for possessing child pornography and fled to China. He was arrested when he re-entered the U.S. in 2011.
