ATLANTA - Authorities say a woman injured in a wrong-way crash that left another woman dead is hospitalized in serious condition.

Authorities say the head-on crash happened shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday on Georgia 400 in Forsyth County.

Sheriff's officials identified the motorists as 21-year-old Maria Gonzalez of Cumming, who was killed in the crash; and 27-year-old Ashley Held.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Held was initially in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, but was later upgraded to serious.

Forsyth County sheriff's officials said Gonzalez was driving her Honda Accord the wrong way when she struck Held's Nissan Exterra.

Forsyth County Deputy Robin Regan said 911 calls from motorists alerted authorities to the Honda Accord driving south in the northbound lanes, and the vehicles crashed shortly after those calls came in.
