A man doing yardwork in the 100 block of South Seminole was robbed and shot just after noon today, Chattanooga police say.

Manuel Gaspar, 52, told police three black males approached him and demanded money.

He gave them what he had but they wanted more. When he couldn't produce more cash, all three fired handguns toward him and a bullet struck him in the ankle.

The robbers drove off in a maroon, four-door Nissan Titan or Chevy Trailblazer toward East Ridge, Gaspar told police.

All three were described as late teens to early 20s, with slim builds.

The shooting comes after Chattanooga police beefed up security and called in backup this weekend after a string of gang-related shootings.

Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this crime to call 423-698-2525. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
