A man and a woman were arrested for arson last night at the Country Hearth Inns & Suites in connection to a fire on Brainerd Road that caused an estimated $300,000 in damages.
Gene Wegg and Pamela McNabb allegedly broke into the Brainerd Trophy Shop early Friday morning and set fire to the building after stealing a company van and several other items, according to a news release.
Fire Department Capt. Steve Everett said information gathered from a pending investigation of the Brainerd Road fire led authorities to the hotel where the pair was found.
According to yesterday's release about the fire, "An employee of the shop told firefighters that early this morning, he checked the shop's security cameras from his home in Hixson. When he noticed the camera went offline, he drove to the shop to check and that's when he discovered the business was on fire."
When firefighters arrived on scene, a large portion of the building was already engulfed in flames, but no one was injured. The fire shut down Brainerd Road while responders tried to control the flames.
Other charges for the duo are pending by the Chattanooga Police Department.
