A Trousdale County mother plans to file a lawsuit saying her newborn baby was mistakenly operated on at University Medical Center in Lebanon in an apparent mix-up by the doctor.
Jennifer Melton, 31, gave birth to son Nate Harper on Dec. 16 by cesarean section. The following morning, both were still in the hospital and Nate was taken for what Melton thought was a routine check, she said.
However, the nurse returned with paperwork about a procedure on Nate's tongue known as a frenulectomy, according to Clint Kelly, Melton's attorney. The procedure is generally done to address potential speech or feeding problems.
