A 15-year-old boy who reportedly injured his ankle jumping from a cliff at a swimming area in the Pocket Wilderness had to be carried two miles out of the woods by emergency personnel on Sunday.

First responders received a call at 1:20 p.m. that the boy was injured, soliciting responses from the state park service, Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department and four other agencies, according to a news release from Hamilton County Emergency Services.

The Pocket Wilderness at the foot of Mowbray Mountain is part of the Cumberland Trail State Park and a popular backwoods hiking and swimming destination.

Emergency responders had the boy out of the woods by 3:30 and he was taken to Children's Hospital, according to the news release.

The incident was the second Pocket Wilderness plunge in five days for first responders. A German shepherd had to be euthanized Wednesday after falling off a cliff during a hiking accident in the area.
