The man who was found dead in the Bradley County Jail on Sunday was Ralph Nelms, who was arrested last week on multiple burglary counts.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a news release that correctional staff at the jail found Nelms, 41, hanging in his cell. The TBI was asked into the case by 10th Judicial District Attorney Steve Crump.

The release said the circumstances surrounding Nelms' death remain under investigation.

An investigation is under way after a man died in the Bradley County Jail today.

District Attorney General Steve Crump said he has asked the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation look into the death, which he said appears to be a suicide by hanging.

Crump said he had no other information on the death yet.

TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland said an agent is at the scene.
