PREVIOUS STORY: Dalton police arrested a man Wednesday night after multiple parents complained that he was chasing and grabbing children in the park.

According to a release, 48-year-old Jeffrey Melvin Bishop began approaching children near the playground at Al Rollins Park on Threadmill Road around 6 p.m. Parents told investigators that Bishop chased their 3-year-old daughter around a swing set, telling her she was pretty.

A woman said that Bishop also touched a boy, but the boy and his parents left the park before police arrived. A 10-year-old boy said Bishop grabbed him by the wrists and asked him to come to the woods with him, but the boy refused.

Later, according to the release, Bishop grabbed a 9-year-old boy by the arms. The boy fought to get away, but he couldn't wiggle free until his father confronted Bishop.

The boy's father told Bishop that officers were on their way. According to the release, Bishop tried to run. But officers found him soon after, on Thornton Avenue near Cedar Street. They said he was drunk.

Dalton police charged Bishop with battery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, first-degree cruelty to children and pedestrian under the influence.
