The outside lane of Interstate 24 near the U.S. 27 split has been closed after workers found a broken deck panel and slab on the bridge deck.
A news release from Jennifer Flynn at the Tennessee Department of Transportation said the damage was found by crews patching potholes.
Workers have blocked off the lane but the repairs will have to be done by a bridge crew, Flynn said, and she's not sure how long it will take to get the crew, tools and supplies in place.
Motorists are asked to use extra caution and watch out for work crews on the highway.
