UPDATE: Interstate 24 westbound lane reopened near U.S. 27 split

UPDATE: The Interstate 24 eastbound work has been rained out for the day. The work on Interstate 24 westbound is done, but traffic is still sluggish.

Work on I-24 eastbound will be rescheduled.

PREVIOUS UPDATE: "Due to the forecast of rain we have decided to make repairs on I-24 East in Chattanooga this afternoon instead of tomorrow," said Jennifer Flynn with TDOT.

Crews are working now to repair a broken concrete slab in Lane 2 on I-24 East between mile markers 178-179 just past the U.S. 27 interchange. 

All I-24 eastbound traffic is being diverted to the Broad Street exit and then back onto I-24 at approximately the 178.8 mm.Lane closures will start eastbound at Chattanooga creek.  The closures will remain in place until repairs are completed, Flynn said.

PREVIOUS STORY: The right lane of westbound Interstate 24 near the U.S. 27 intersection has been closed for an emergency repair to a broken concrete slab.

Jennifer Flynn, spokeswoman for the Tennessee Department of Transportation, said crews closed the section just past the interchange in the two-lane section of I-24. 

On Friday, she said, crews will be repairing a slab on the eastbound side in the same area starting at 10 a.m.

TDOT Operations will handle traffic control during the closures, which will remain in place until repairs are completed.
