UPDATE: Dalton police say man's self-inflicted gunshot wound may have been accidental

UPDATE: The Dalton Police Department is investigating today's fatal shooting at an office at the A1 Towing & Recovery lot as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Department spokesman Bruce Frazier said there's a possibility that this was an accidental shooting as opposed to an intentional act on the part of the victim.

Frazier apologized for using the term suicide earlier, which would imply intent.

PREVIOUS UPDATE: Dalton Police Department investigators believe a man committed suicide by shooting himself today at an office at the A1 Towing & Recovery lot.

In a release, spokesman Bruce Frazier said investigators found a gun under the desk where the person was found.

Also, surveillance footage does not show anyone walking in or out of the office before the shooting, which was reported to the police around 12:30 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY: Police are investigating a shooting today that claimed the life of a man at A1 Towing & Recovery lot in the 1500 block of E. Morris Street in Dalton, Ga.

Officers were dispatched about 12:30 p.m. on the report of a shooting victim being found in an office at the lot, according to Bruce Frazier of the Dalton Police Department.

Responding officers found a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Hamilton Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to Frazier.

The victim's identity has not been released.

Officers have secured the scene and are investigating but no arrests have been made.
