A family of four has been displaced after an apartment fire ravaged their home Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to Woodlawn apartments on the 2300 block of Wilson Avenue at 5:18 a.m. and smoke and flames were already visible in a ground floor apartment, according to a news release.

Large flames were in the living room and spreading into the dining room and kitchen, but firefighters made a quick attack and extinguished the fire within 10 minutes.

The tenant said she and a friend had left to grab a bite to eat, but when they returned smoke was coming from the windows and flames were visible in the living room.

She and three small children are displaced but otherwise unharmed. The damage to the apartment was estimated at $40,000 and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
