VW sales in U.S. fall 5.8 percent in July

Volkswagen of America today reported that sales fell in July by 5.8 percent over the same period last year.

Sales of the Chattanooga-made Passat sedan of 5,143 were off 21.5 percent in the month compared to a year ago, according to the German automaker with a plant in Chattanooga.

Sales of the Atlas sport utility vehicle were 1,306 vehicles in July as the Chattanooga plant continues to ramp up production.

Total July sales were 27,091 vehicles.

For the year, sales are 5.9 percent higher over the same period last year to 188,329 vehicles, according to VW.
