A corporal in the corrections division of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has been indicted and suspended, department spokesman Matt Lea said in a news release.

Cpl. Gene Planer was indicted Thursday on one count of official misconduct after an investigation by the sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division, Lea said.

He did not provide any details of the alleged misconduct and said because the case is pending in Criminal Court, the department can release no further information.

He said Sheriff Jim Hammond has placed Planer on paid suspension for up to 14 days, per HCSO policy.
