Twenty-eight people were arrested in Grundy and Marion counties on Monday, according to a news release.
Charges of those arrested included failing to appear in court, probation violations, and distributing controlled substances, such as methamphetamine, marijuana, methadone, morphine, xanax, oxycodone and hydrocodone.
Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum said operations of this caliber are "absolutely necessary" to ensure the safety of our citizens and community.
"The working relationships we have developed within our own county as well as surrounding counties bolster our ability to deter crime and apprehend offenders," the press release stated.
Marion County Sheriff Ronnie "Bo" Burnett said the Marion County Sheriff's Department "is committed to working with its law enforcement partners to conduct long term drug investigations that target those people in our communities who choose distribute dangerous drugs," according to the press release.
The roundup was part of an undercover operation conducted by the 12th Judicial District Drug Task Force, the Grundy County Sheriff's Department and Tracy City Police Department. Nearly 40 officers helped in the roundup. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Monteagle Police Department also assisted in the arrests.
