A Nashville, Tenn., man was killed Thursday evening in Rhea County when his car collided head-on with a big rig on State Highway 68 in Spring City, Tenn.

State authorities said 48-year-old Nashville resident Jerrod J. Lyons was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a report provided by Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Alan Bailey.

The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Lyons was killed when his southbound 1997 Honda Accord crossed the centerline into the northbound lane while negotiating a curve, states the report filed by Trooper Phillip Dunn.

Lyons' Honda collided head-on with a 2016 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by 42-year-old Don Scarbrough, of Crossville, Tenn., troopers said.

Scarbrough was uninjured. Both men were wearing their seat belts but, in Dunn's opinion, the safety equipment made no difference in the outcome.

Tests are being conducted on Lyons to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.

No citations were issued and no charges will be filed in the crash, troopers said.
