An increase in accidents has forced the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to replace the yield signs with stop signs on the US-27 merging ramps.
Beginning at 7 p.m. tonight, TDOT will be changing the the yield signs at the following locations to stop signs:
- 4th St. ramp onto U.S. 27 South
- Westbound MLK Blvd. ramp onto U.S. 27 South
- Eastbound MLK Blvd. ramp onto U.S. 27 South
- Eastbound MLK Blvd. ramp onto U.S. 27 North
One ramp at a time will be closed while the stop signs are added.
Traffic will be required to stop at the locations after the installations are made.
There will also be an increased law enforcement presence within the project limits after the changes are made.
Drivers who wish to avoid this area altogether can access a map with suggested alternate routes on the project website at www.tn.gov/tdot/section/projects and on the City of Chattanooga's website at http://www.chattanooga.gov/
