Part of East Walnut Avenue to close Friday for investigation

A portion of East Walnut Avenue in Dalton, Georgia will be closed on the morning of Friday, August 25 to allow for an investigation into a serious August 9 crash that left a Dalton teenager hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to a release from the DPD.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, westbound lanes of East Walnut Avenue between Lester Avenue and Sheridan Avenue will be closed for a few hours. Traffic investigators will conduct an investigation and document the scene of the crash, the release states.

DPD and Georgia State Patrol officers will reconstruct the August 9 accident, after which an initial investigation indicated that 18-year-old Austin Burnette of Chatsworth was traveling westbound on East Walnut Avenue when 18-year-old Keiri Suarez of Tunnel Hill attempted to turn left onto Sheridan Avenue in front of Burnette. Burnette's Ford Mustang hit Suarez's Toyota Corolla before sending both vehicles off the road. Burnette and a passenger had minor injuries while Suarez remains in critical condition, according to the release.
