Marine Cpl. Henry Andregg Jr. came to his final resting place at the Chattanooga National Cemetery today.
Andregg, of Whitwell, Tenn., lost his life in November 1943 in World War II, during the United States' campaign against Japan in the Pacific Theater.
Until recently matched to his family by DNA testing, his remains were interred, unidentified, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu.
"We never thought this day would come," his niece Dot Rogers said after the ceremony. She last saw her uncle when she was 16 years old.
Nancy Harris, another niece, said she was very thankful for all the support the family has received for their returning uncle.
"People lined the roads" on Highway 28 to pay their respects, she said.
