Georgia and Alabama were named to college football's four-team playoff this afternoon, giving the Southeastern Conference half of the field for the first time in the four-year history of the event.

The Bulldogs are the No. 3 seed and the Crimson Tide the No. 4 seed, with Clemson and Oklahoma taking the top two spots. Clemson and Alabama are expected to meet in the Sugar Bowl, while Oklahoma and Georgia are expected to vie in the Rose Bowl, with each of those matchups scheduled for New Year's Day.

Alabama and Clemson have collided in each of the past two national title games, splitting those matchups, while Georgia and Oklahoma have never met.

Georgia won its first SEC title since 2005 with Saturday's 28-7 defeat of an Auburn team that wound up 2-2 against this year's four-team playoff field. Oklahoma won the Big 12 championship Saturday by whipping TCU and possesses the expected Heisman Trophy winner, quarterback Baker Mayfield.
