Firefighters battled a house fire on the 1200 block of East 32nd Street early Tuesday morning, according to a Chattanooga Fire Department news release.

Several fire companies were dispatched about 1:10 a.m. to the residence where they found heavy black smoke emanating from the structure.

Firefighters knocked down a fireplace blaze that had extended into ceiling, roof and chimney of the house.

The Chattanooga Police Department, Hamilton County Emergency Services and EPB also provided assistance.

The residents evacuated the home after notifying the Chattanooga Fire Department and no one was injured.

Because of the damage to the home and lack of electrical power, the fire department notified the American Red Cross that two adults would need assistance and accommodations.

The structure suffered flame and smoke damage. The fire has been deemed accidental.
