For the second time this week, a Chattanooga motorist has driven into a body of water in East Brainerd.

Employees at Audobon Acres said they saw a vehicle drive past the visitor center and continue out of sight, but when it didn't return they investigated and found the car in the South Chickamauga Creek.

The car was still upright and partially submerged and the driver was still sitting in the driver's seat. When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, the employee who spotted the car and the driver were both walking on the road back toward the visitor's center.

The driver was transported to a local hospital by Hamilton County EMS, but an update on his condition was not immediately available. Investigators with the Chattanooga Police Department are trying to determine what led to the crash.

Late Tuesday afternoon Charlie Allen, 75, crashed on Greenway View Drive after leaving the Brainerd Wal-Mart and tumbled into a retention pond near South Chickamauga Creek.

Firefighters found the vehicle upside-down and fully submerged but did manage to extricate the man after lifting the car with a winch and breaking one of the windows.

Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
