A small fire coming from an electrical outlet in the cafeteria at Dalewood Middle School prompted the relocation of students to the gym this morning, a news release states.
Chattanooga firefighters responded to the Shallowford Road school just before 8 a.m.
School resource officer Mickey Robertson got a portable fire extinguisher and put the fire out before firefighters arrived, authorities said. No one was injured.
Fire Capt. Danny Usher said the students were moved as a precaution and firefighters used a high-powered fan to ventilate the building.
Authorities said there was minimal damage to the building but electrical repairs will be necessary.
