Traffic on Interstate 24 east was backed up throughout downtown on the afternoon of June 1, 2017.Three separate traffic incidents backed up traffic this afternoon from Interstate 24 in downtown Chattanooga to just past the I-24/I-75 split, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation's Smartway website.
A vehicle fire and then a multi-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 75 near East Ridge had traffic stalled for hours.
Another multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 24 eastbound near the Belvoir Avenue and Germantown Road exits also ontributed to traffic gridlock.
