An Atlanta-area man drowned and his friend nearly lost his own life trying to save him Sunday at Foster Falls in Marion County, Sheriff Ronnie "Bo" Burnett says.
The sheriff said the two men had hiked down to the water level and were taking pictures when one got in over his head and began to struggle. His friend went after him and some other people at the falls threw a float into the water as well.
They brought the victim to shore and performed CPR but could not revive him. The other man was taken by ambulance to a Chattanooga hospital, the sheriff said.
He said the men's identities won't be released until next of kin are notified.
