A 16-year-old has been charged with murder for the death of Christopher Estes on the 700 block of Shelly Lane in Rossville, Ga., Thursday night, confirmed Steve Wilson, Walker County sheriff.

Estes, 16, suffered a gunshot wound to the head, said Dewayne Wilson, Walker County coroner.

Wilson said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to assist processing the crime scene, and Estes' body will be taken to the GBI crime lab in Decatur, Ga.

The 16-year-old suspect was taken to the Regional Youth Development Center in Rome, Ga.

A group of individuals were gathered on the front porch of the home, according to a press release from the Walker County Sheriff's Office. Then, the 16-year-old suspect removed a weapon from a backpack, pointed it at Estes and fatally shot him.

Evidence indicated that alcohol was being consumed by both adults and juveniles at the home, which is believed to be a contributing factor of the shooting, according to the press release.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived at approximately 10:45 p.m. Officers continued to investigate throughout the night and into Friday, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect at approximately 6 p.m.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in juvenile court on June 12.

The sheriff's office did not identify the 16-year-old, as he is still considered a juvenile under Georgia law.
