Gap Inc. announced today it will invest another $41.7 million and add more than 500 more jobs at the company's distribution center in Sumner County.

The San Francisco-based retailer is expanding its Gallatin, Tenn., distribution campus to handle more online fulfillment of orders to help Gap's growing e-commerce business.

"The Gallatin distribution campus continues to be a key strategic location for growth and opportunity," said Shawn Curran, executive vice president of the global supply chain for Gap. "Its central location and access to a strong labor force are key for continued investment in Tennessee."

Gap Inc. is already one of the largest employers in Sumner County, operating more than 2.8 million square feet of distribution space as part of the company's North American network of distribution centers.

"We've been proud members of the Sumner County community for over 20 years and our Gallatin team members are some of the best in the business," Curran said.

In July 2016, the retailer announced a $3.1 million investment in Gallatin to meet growing demand for e-commerce sales on Gap Inc.'s brand websites.

Bob Rolfe, Tennessee's commissioner of Economic and Community Development, said such investments are key to Tennessee's economic future.

"Gap Inc.'s third major investment in Sumner County over the past four years is a strong vote of confidence in Tennessee's advantages for doing business," Rolfe said.

Gap sells clothing, accessories and personal care products for men, women and children under the Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Athleta, Intermix and Weddington Way brands. Gap Inc. products are available for purchase in more than 90 countries worldwide through about 3,200 company-operated stores, about 450 franchise stores, and e-commerce sites.

The expansion will be aided by state job tax credits and other incentives from both local government and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
