UPDATE: Warrants issued for arrest of ambulance driver in fatal crash

The Rome (Ga.) Police Department has issued active warrants for the Puckett EMS driver who crashed her ambulance, killing a patient last week.

According to the Floyd County Sheriff's Office website, there were active warrants Tuesday evening for 21-year-old Crystin Rheanne Keys, of Chattanooga, on charges of vehicular homicide and failure to maintain lane.

McCracken Poston, Keys' lawyer, said in a press release that, despite being injured, Keys will turn herself in to the Floyd County Jail tomorrow morning for booking.

Poston stated Keys is five weeks pregnant, and the accident "severely affected her mobility." She also suffered multiple fractures in the accident, Poston said in a news release.

"My client is deeply grieving the death of the passenger in the ambulance," Poston said. "She wants his family to know that they are in her thoughts and prayers."

"We are in the very early stages of this accident investigation, but I am confident that no external issues were present or existing that contributed in any way to the accident," Poston said.

According to an incident report, Keys drove an ambulance south on Martha Berry Highway around 4 p.m. Friday. She allegedly weaved off the road and hit a tree. The crash "vaulted" the ambulance, which came to rest on the wrong side of the road.

Keys told an investigator she fell asleep at the wheel. The passenger, Tony Patterson, of LaFayette, Ga., died in the crash.
