Blaze damages job center in Athens, Tenn.

Jobseekers in Athens, Tenn., are going to be using a substitute site after a fire left the American Job Center on Congress Parkway with flame, smoke and water damage.

The early morning fire was reported by a passerby who called the fire department, according to a news release from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

A mobile job center was sent from Chattanooga on Thursday to make sure jobseekers in McMinn County have continued access to services.

"We currently do not know how long the job center in Athens will be closed and we need to continue providing services in McMinn County, so the decision was made to bring in the mobile job center," said TDLWD Commissioner Burns Phillips.

The mobile American Job Center will be located in the parking lot of the damaged facility on Congress Parkway North through next week and will operate from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
