A Memphis woman lied about her son being in a stolen car Thursday afternoon, sparking a frantic search for the 1-year-old boy who was in a Frayser home the whole time, police said.

The woman, who hasn't been named yet, is facing charges, Memphis Police Department spokesman Louis Brownlee said, including filing a false report. It's uncertain why she told police her son was in the stolen car, police said, but this is not the first time that's happened in Memphis.

"She dropped the kid off with a relative last night. Her and this guy, they were together in the car. Dude took her car without her consent and just basically she lied," Brownlee said. "The reason for her lies are unknown at this time."
