Firefighters battled both a brush fire and a home fire that ultimately displaced five people Saturday morning on Mountain Creek Road.

No one was seriously injured in either fire, according to a release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

The house fire was reported shortly after 9 a.m. in the 3500 block of Mountain Creek Road.

The attached garage was fully ablaze when firefighters arrived, and they worked to keep it from spreading to other homes, according to the release.

The home was considered a total loss and was estimated at $150,000.

Three adults and two children were all home when the fire started but got out safely. One resident was examined for smoke inhalation but declined to be taken to a hospital, according to the release.

While firefighters were on scene, they received a report of a brush fire across the street behind apartment complexes. The apartments are located on the base of Signal Mountain, and the fire was on steep terrain behind the Trails of Signal Mountain.

Firefighters controlled the fire before it endangered any structures, according to the release.
