TMA honors local doctor, organization for community service

Dr. David Bruce of Chattanooga was one of three winners of this year's Distinguished Service Awards presented by the Tennessee Medical Association.

Dr. Bruce was honored for his volunteer work as medical director for the Chattanooga Ironman race. Bruce headed a team of 100 medical staffers who provided medical care for the hundreds of runners in the competition.

La Paz Chattanooga was also honored as one of three winners of the TMA's Community Service Award. The organization was cited for its work as a gateway providing healthcare services to the local Latino community. La Paz provides translation services and also offers health-related programs such as prenatal screenings, nutrition classes and an annual health fair.

The awards were presented on Saturday at the TMA's annual meeting of its board of delegates.
