Strong storms threaten greater Chattanooga area

UPDATE: A severe thunderstorm warning has expired for Hamilton, Marion and Sequatchie counties.

A significant weather advisory has expired for Hamilton, Meigs, McMinn, Rhea and Sequatchie counties in Tennessee.

ORIGINAL STORY: Strong storms are expected to threaten the greater Chattanooga area tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Hamilton, Marion and Sequatchie counties in Tennessee. A significant weather advisory has also been issued for Meigs, Rhea and Sequatchie counties.

The main threat is wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is also occurring with this storm.

Hail damage to vehicles is possible as well as wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.

Scattered thunderstorms are also expected for most of the day Wednesday.
