The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded $37.1 million in contracts for infrastructure improvements in Catoosa and Dade counties, State Sen. Jeff Mullis, announced this week.

The project in Catoosa County is significantly bigger than the one in Dade County. It will cost $34.6 million and will widen about 2.1 miles of road on Alabama Highway. The construction will run from south of Rollins Industrial Park to Dixie Highway. In addition to widening the road, works will build two bridges and approaches. Workers expect to complete the project by December 2020.

In Dade County, the Department of Transportation has awarded a $2.5 million contract for resurfacing 10.3 miles of State Route 301. The workers will also repair the shoulder of the road.

This project is expected to be done by the end of February 2018.

"I would like to thank Georgia DOT for awarding important contracts to Senate District 53,"Mullis, R-Chickamauga, said in a statement. "Upgrading existing infrastructure throughout the district is critical to ensuring the safety of our local community and its citizens."
