VW sales up 10 percent in first quarter, figures show

Volkswagen of America today reported that first-quarter sales jumped 10 percent over a year ago on the strength of the Chattanooga-made Passat, the automaker's Golf models and Tiguan SUV.

For the quarter, VW sales of 76,290 units were driven by the a 30 percent climb in the Passat to 18,267.

Also, total Golf sales were up 48.2 percent in the quarter, the company reported.

In March, sales rose 3 percent compared to the same month last year on increases in its Golf SportWagen and Passat.

For March, total VW sales in the U.S. were 27,635 vehicles.
