Warren County, FAA investigate Tuesday plane crash in McMinnville, Tenn.

Federal officials say two people were aboard a small aircraft that crashed Tuesday night while en route to land at Warren County Memorial Airport in McMinnville, Tenn.

About 7 p.m. CST Tuesday, a Piper PA-32 aircraft crashed into a field off of Tennessee Highway 287 and Sherrell Road, Kathleen Bergen, manager of the Federal Aviation Administration's communications office in Atlanta, said Wednesday in an emailed statement on the crash.

Bergen said there were two people on board. The names of the victims have not been released.

Bergen said fire substantially damaged the aircraft.

According to an article published by the Southern Standard newspaper in McMinnville, no one survived the crash.

Law enforcement officials in Warren County on Tuesday told the newspaper that family members of the victims were at the scene. A Southern Standard reporter who went to the scene noted that the aircraft's tail was the only part distinguishable.

The FAA will investigate and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of the accident, Bergen said. FAA officials were expected to arrive at the scene Wednesday to begin the investigation.
