TNAchieves, the partnering organization to Gov. Bill Haslam's TN Promise, needs 3,000 volunteers statewide to help the class of 2018 candidates.

In conjunction with the TN Promise scholarship, the mission of TNAchieves is to increase higher education opportunities for Tennessee high school students by providing last-dollar scholarships with mentor guidance. In order to make this possible, TNAchieves pairs every student with a volunteer mentor who serves as both a resource and an advocate.

Mentors must be 21 years or older, must be subject to a background check and be willing to invest 10-15 hours annually by assisting five to 10 high school seniors with post-secondary success.

In Chattanooga State's service area, TNAchieves still needs the following number of mentors:

' Hamilton County: 49

' Grundy County: 5

' Marion County: 6

' Rhea County: 8

' Sequatchie County: 1

Apply to become a mentor on the TNAchieves website https://tnachieves.org/mentors/apply by Dec. 1.
