NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A former Tennessee sheriff's office employee has been sentenced to 15 months in prison on charges related to working with the sheriff to profit from the sale of electronic cigarettes to inmates.
U.S. Attorney Donald Cochran announced Thursday that former Rutherford County Sheriff Chief Administrative Deputy Joe L. Russell II was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Nashville.
The 50-year-old from Murfreesboro pleaded guilty in January.
Former Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold also pleaded guilty in January and received a 50-month sentence in the scheme in May.
Arnold's uncle, John Vanderveer, was sentenced to one year and a day in September.
Court documents show Russell admitted to forming the JailCigs company with Arnold and Vanderveer in 2013 and profiting off selling the e-cigarettes to inmates.
