Pedestrian killed in Calhoun, Tenn., train collision

A collision between a pedestrian and a Norfolk Southern train in Calhoun, Tennessee, claimed one life late Wednesday.

Susan Terpay, spokeswoman for Norfolk Southern, said via email Thursday that the fatal collision happened at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday and involved a westbound train with three locomotives pulling 53 rail cars. The pedestrian, who has not been identified, was walking on the tracks when the collision occurred, Terpay said.

A McMinn County 911 dispatcher said Thursday emergency responders got the call at 11:25 p.m., and that the collision happened near a railroad bridge.
