Future royal has roots in Chattanooga

American actress and future royal Meghan Markle has a connection to the Scenic City.

Markle's late grandfather, Alvin Ragland, was born in Chattanooga and his wife, Ava Ragland, worked as a teacher for Hamilton County Schools, according to The Daily Mail.

Ava Ragland was a kindergarten teacher at Normal Park and Woodmore Elementary from 1991-1993, according to information provided by Superintendent Bryan Johnson. She also worked at Spring Creek and Red Bank Elementary from 1993-2002.

Alvin Ragland died in 2011 at the age of 81.

Markle's great-grandfather, Steve R. Ragland, also was from Chattanooga and worked at a laundry.

Prince Harry, 33, and Markle, 36, announced their engagement this morning and plan to marry next spring.
