Grundy County schools put on lockdown briefly

The Grundy County Herald reported public schools in the area were put on lockdown after a student was reported to have a gun.

Jessie Kinsey, Grundy County Director of Schools, told media members that "information was reported to a principal that a gun was supposed to be brought to school today, but did not say which school." The schools were put on lockdown as a precaution until the Grundy County Sheriff's Department could look into the threat.

Shortly before 11 a.m., the newspaper reported the lockdown had been lifted.

"All schools have been cleared by the sheriff's office," a statement from Kinsey read. "All schools executed their safety plan as written. We would like to thank the Grundy County Sheriff's office for their assistance with investigating this report."

Spokespeope for the Grundy County Sheriff's Department and the Grundy County School District could not immediately be reached for comment Monday morning.
