VW sales climb 33.2 percent last month on SUVs

Volkswagen of America today reported that September sales jumped 33.2 percent over the same month a year ago on the strength of higher SUV sales, including the Chattanooga-made Atlas.

Total sales for the month were 32,112 vehicles, according to the German automaker that has an assembly plant in Chattanooga.

For the year through September, sales are 252,456 units, up 9.2 percent, company figures show.

Sales of the 2018 Atlas totaled 4,095 units in September, while the all-new Tiguan posted sales of 3,075.

SUVs accounted for more than 26 percent of total sales for the Volkswagen brand last month, according to VW.

Also, the automaker's Golf family posted sales of 5,685 units, an increase of 24 percent.
