KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) - A chemical plant explosion in Tennessee has spurred a shelter-in-place advisory, though no injuries were reported.

Eastman Chemical says the incident Wednesday morning resulted from a process disruption in the coal gasification area of its Kingsport manufacturing site, which was reported to authorities. There was a loud noise and visible plume of smoke.

Eastman told employees and neighbors to shelter in place, adding that those nearby should turn off their HVAC systems.

Eastman removed the shelter-in-place advisory a little more than an hour later for everyone but those within a half-mile radius and personnel within the plant's perimeter.

Eastman says it expects an update on the scaled-down shelter-in-place later Wednesday. Updates are being posted online .

The company says it's working to determine the cause and impact to operations.
