Ider man who led Georgia and Alabama police on two-state chase released from hospital

An Ider, Ala., man who led authorities on a two-state chase after he robbed a pharmacy in Higdon, Ala., on Tuesday was released from the hospital on Wednesday.

Jackson County Sheriff's Office officials said 35-year-old Michael David Baxter was spotted in Dade County, Ga., shortly after Baxter on Tuesday afternoon allegedly robbed on Tuesday afternoon the Ponder Pharmacy with a handgun and took several bottles of Oxycodone and fled the scene. Witnesses at the pharmacy were able to give a description of Baxter and his vehicle to Jackson County authorities who passed the information along to authorities in Dade County.

Dade County Sheriff's deputies and Trenton police spotted the suspect's vehicle near Interstate 59 in Trenton and began a pursuit.

Speeds reached more than 100 mph as police pursued Baxter south and back across the state line into DeKalb County, Ala., Jackson County officials said in statement. The chase ended near the Sulfur Springs exit where Baxter was taken into custody and a handgun and a number of stolen items were recovered, officials said.

An ambulance was called after police discovered Baxter ingested a number of the pills. He was taken to Highlands Hospital in Scottsboro for treatment. He was released from the hospital on Wednesday and transported to the Jackson County Jail to face charges of pharmacy robbery, officials said.
