Walker County residents who want to shed scrap tires can give them to the local landfill for free on Nov. 4, Commissioner Shannon Whitfield announced this morning.

The county is hosting Tire Amnesty Day at the landfill, located at 5120 North Marble Top Road in Chickamauga. Each resident is limited to four tires. The offer will last from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The offer is only for the public. Commercial businesses cannot bring their tires to the landfill for free. To qualify, you have to show the workers a proof of residency, such as a driver's license or a recent utility bill.
Car and light truck tires cannot be more than 20 inches. The county landfill will also take in ATV tires.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division will reimburse the county for up to $4,900 as part of this deal.
