Police are searching for a man after they say led them on a car chase Monday night that ended in the river.

At about 10:02 p.m., a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputy began pursuing a vehicle starting in the 2300 block of Suck Creek Road, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The deputy chased the vehicle to the 19500 block of River Canyon Road where the vehicle left the roadway, traveling through a private resident's yard. The male driver jumped out while the vehicle was still moving and ran down a boat ramp and into the waterfront.

The car continued down the boat ramp and into the river. After it entered the river, two women exited. One woman made it back to the shoreline, while the other one, along with the driver, swam out into the river, refusing commands of deputies to swim toward the shoreline.

Deputies apprehended the other woman out of the river. Both women were taken to a local hospital for a medical assessment and will be transported to the Hamilton County Jail for processing once they are released.

The driver has not been located at this time.

The Hamilton County Marine Patrol was joined by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to assist from the water, and the Red Bank Police Department and Marion County Sheriff's Office responded with patrol support.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office will continue to search for and identify the driver.
