Cherokee County, Ala., couple charged with child abuse

A Cherokee County, Ala., couple are facing child abuse charges after Cherokee County Sheriff's Office detectives and Alabama Department of Human Resources officials conducted a joint investigation.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office did not offer any details of the abuse but, according to a news release, the victim's parents, Anglia Darleen Morris, 41, and Robin Scott Morris, 55, both of Leesburg, Ala., were charged with felony child abuse on Monday, Chief Investigator Josh Summerford said in the statement.
The formal charge leveled against each parent is listed in jail records as torture, willful abuse of a child.

The state agency received "an allegation of severe neglect involving a child," triggering the joint investigation, officials said.

Jail records show Robin Morris was released Thursday on $30,000 bond while Anglia Morris remains behind bars on the same bond amount.
