It was place to socialize while escaping the Southern heat in favor of a cool evening breeze, and a place where presidents stumped for votes before social media trumpeted their message to millions.

As much as anything, the front porch was a state of mind.

All those facets of life on the porch, and more, will be explored at the second annual Conference On The Front Porch Oct. 18-19 in Taylor, Miss., just outside Oxford. Organizer Campbell McCool is expecting more than 100 participants, up from about 80 for last year's conference.
