UPDATE: The man who was injured in an officer-involved shooting on Sept. 4 has been identified as Casey Jay Smith, 33, of Hixson.
Smith was taken to a hospital in critical condition and is still undergoing treatment for his wounds.

ORIGINAL STORY: An officer-involved shooting happened early Monday morning and a suspect has been critically injured, according to a Chattanooga Police Department news release.
Officers responded to a call about 12:20 a.m. regarding a suspicious person at the 5200 block Central Avenue.
During interaction with the suspect, shots were fired by law enforcement. The suspect was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.
The Hamilton County District Attorney's office assigned the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office the lead role in investigating the incident

Chattanooga police are cooperating fully with Sheriff's Office investigators.
Chattanooga police officers who were on scene at the time of the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is per department policy after being involved in an application of deadly force.
