Man arrested after confessing to East Ridge burglaries

A man has been arrested after confessing to East Ridge officers that he had taken part in several burglaries of East Ridge businesses, according to a release from the East Ridge Police Department.

Officers on patrol Wednesday morning found Desmond Powell, 20, hiding underneath a semi-trailer after they noticed the glass door of the Haiku Hibachi restaurant on Ringgold Road had been broken by a large rock.

Powell was arrested, and police interviewed him since the incident was similar to recent burglaries being investigated.

Powell then admitted to four other business burglaries.

East Ridge police will seek warrants for burglary and theft of the Valero convenience store, Sonny's convenience store, East Ridge Games and Videos and a fourth business once a "positive determination" has been made of its name, according to the release.
