Patrick Sharrock, a 15-year-old who suffered from a brittle-bone disease and lived in a specially equipped Rossville residence built for an episode of the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" TV series on ABC, has died.

Businesses and workers in the area rallied around the Sharrock family in February 2011 to replace their old house, which was riddled with structural issues and tripping hazards for Patrick. His bones were broken dozens of times over his short life as a result of his condition.

When they spoke to the show's producers, Patrick's parents, Michael and Cindy, had a simple request: "Just make a house that's going to help Patrick."

The resulting 3,000-square-foot home was equipped with features such as light switches set at a low height, a tiny kitchen and heated cork flooring in Patrick's bedroom and his homeschool classroom for those days when his illness forced him to crawl instead of walk.

The home also included an indoor pool, a secret passageway and superhero murals covering an entire wall. In the year after it was completed, Patrick didn't break a single bone in the home.

After "Extreme Makeover," the Sharrocks made as many appearances as they could, for example at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the annual Riverbend festival, the Shrine Circus and at the Creative Discovery Museum.

Patrick, dressed as Dr. Scorcher, a superhero of his own invention, set off the fireworks at the end of Riverbend in 2011.

The family will receive family and friends at the Wilson Funeral Home in Ft. Oglethorpe Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A funeral service will be at the Northwest Georgia Amphitheater at 4 p.m. Monday. Attendees are asked to bring their own seating. Burial will be Tuesday at noon in Lakewood Memory Gardens South in Rossville.
